Kester Music

Kim Steury has been teaching music at Kester for 22 years. A lover of music at a young age, she realized that she also loved teaching when at age 12 she found herself teaching piano to ten students. She competed and performed throughout her childhood, into college, and in her adult life. She received her BFA and MFA in Acting and Directing and found a home for her love of music, piano and singing in musical theater. 

She has performed and directed all over the country and abroad. In addition to running, directing and performing in her own professional theater company, Candlefish, she has directed and produced shows for children and teens from kindergarten through high school.

Kim feels very fortunate to be able to share her passion for the arts with her students, "Watching them grow up while sharing the excitement of music, dance and theater is beyond fulfilling. Being witness to them blossoming with self-confidence, knowledge and learning to work with others is magical." Kim has directed productions for elementary students such as Shrek, Annie, Seussical, Honk!, Bye Bye Birdie, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma, The Music Man and many others.

Kimberly Ann Steury Theatre, otherwise known as K.A.S.T. was founded by Kim Steury who has been teaching music and theatre for years.  She started her own theatre company with the mission of bringing theatre and the arts to kids and young adults.

K.A.S.T has done countless shows all directed and produced by Kim Steury, including Wizard of Oz, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, and many more.

K.A.S.T currently offers a musical theatre program at Kester Elementary School. We produce two shows a year at Kester, one in the Fall and one in the Spring.

We also offer a summer camp located at Van Nuys Middle School. The summer camp is open to all, ages 2nd - 12th grade.

K.A.S.T. is particularly proud of this production of Aladdinfrom Fall 2020, launched as a full-scale virtual production during the Covid-19 pandemic. Casting and rehearsals were completely virtual as well as costumes and make-up. This creative outlet proved vital for the students to feel connected to each other and their musical community.
